Intensive English Program

Aloha, everyone! This is Akiho. I’m a level 4 writing student. This is my first time to write a blog assignment. I’m excited to tell you about my magical moment!

Hawaiʻi has a lot of events or festivals on the weekends. Have you ever seen a green lake? Can you see a green lake in this picture I took? I went to the Green Lake Concert last Saturday. The Hawaiian name for this green lake is called “Ka Wai a Pele” which means Pele’s water in English. Pele is the famous Hawaiian goddess of Kilauea volcano. There was a big grassy area and the weather was perfect! We could enjoy some booths featuring things such as Hawaiian food, organic shave ice, and educational information.

The concert began with the ‘oli which is a Hawaiian chant. Then, the live music began! I danced with my hula sisters to music that was sung by Lito Arkangel. He was so friendly and also his voice was amazing!  I was so glad to dance with them at such a lovely location because I could feel like I was a part of the earth. People spent a fun and relaxing time with their families or friends.

If you participate in these festivals you can have a good time. How about attending some of the Big Island festivals next weekend?

Some of our IEP students will dance at this festival!
