Application Fee:

You must pay the IEP application fee when you send in your application. This fee is non-refundable. Use the Application Fee Form to make this payment.

 

Tuition

 

Tuition in the IEP covers the cost of the classes, and also includes:

·         Orientation and placement testing

·         Use of the computer lab and other campus facilities

·         Tutors or conversation partners

·         Activities and weekend trips

·         Graduation ceremony

 

Tuition is non-refundable after the first day of class. Tuition is paid during orientation.

 

IEP offers 3 core courses:

 

Writing & Grammar

Reading & Vocabulary

Listening & Speaking

 

F1 students must take all 3 courses.

 

Tourists and Residents may choose the courses they take. Tourists may not take more than 2 courses.

 

Housing

IEP works with selected off-campus student housing units. You can make your own arrangements or you can use our Arrival Support Service.

 

The housing units on the IEP’s website are all within walking or biking distance from the campus. Please note that public transportation is limited in Hilo. Almost all IEP students live in housing that is listed on our website. It takes on average 15-20 minutes to walk and about 5-10 minutes on a bicycle.

 

 

Health insurance

F1 students are required to have health insurance. You may use your own health insurance which you have purchased in your home country, or you may purchase health insurance once you are here.

 

Contact the IEP Office before you purchase health insurance to make sure it meets the University of Hawai‘i’s requirements.

 

Your insurance plan must meet or exceed the following University of Hawaii system requirements:

 

Comprehensive medical coverage

at least $100,000 USD per accident/illness

Inpatient/Outpatient medical (including mental health) coverage

no less than 75% usual/customary charge (UCC)

Repatriation coverage

At least $7,500 USD

Medical evacuation coverage to home country

At least $10,000 USD

Deductible per accident or illness

No more than $500 USD

Waiting period for pre-existing conditions

No longer than 6 months

 

 

Books and Materials

 

You will be required to purchase textbooks and other materials (pens, paper, notebooks, etc) before your classes begin. Textbooks are usually purchased during orientation. It costs roughly $40-$50 per textbook. Usually each course requires at least one textbook. Fulltime students usually need to buy three textbooks.


Arrival Support Service

 

The IEP offers Pre and Post-Arrival Support. This is an optional fee that is payable before arrival for students who require assistance finding housing, airport pick up, and shopping before the session begins. This fee is non-refundable. Use the Application Fee Form to request and pay for Arrival Support.

 

Pre and Post-Arrival Support includes:

·         Arranging housing with one of the apartments on the housing page

·         Airport pick up from Hilo International Airport to your apartment

·         Two shopping trips

 

Airport pick ups are only made from Hilo International Airport. Please note that the IEP will only provide airport pick ups on certain days and at certain times. In principle, there are no weekend or late night pick ups.

Other fees

 

Late orientation fee ($100 non-refundable)

If you miss our scheduled orientation you will be charged for a special late orientation. All new IEP students are required to attend orientation.

 

 

Receiving Your Documents

If you would like to receive your I-20 and admission documents by express mail, please pre-pay for shipping at https://study.eshipglobal.com.

 

Create an account and pre-pay. When you are asked to enter a “Student ID#”, please enter your University of Hawaii ID number. We will print out the shipping label and mail your documents.
