Aloha,this is Kano.
Finally, summer is over, and Fall 2017 is started. How was the first week of the classes? I managed to survive the first week while I’m being busy to go school and hula. This is my third and the last Fall semester to study in HawCC, and I will try hard!
Well, I’m going to write about The NEW STUDENT SUPPORT OF IEP. Recently, I went to support the new IEP student as an IEP staff. I hope this blog will be help for the people who are thinking to study in IEP.
This information is from the IEP Homepage. I put this just in case.
New Student Support
Pre-arrival support is especially convenient if this is your first experience abroad or it’s your first time in Hilo.
You can choose from the 3 services below to fit your needs:
- Housing support: With the $50 support fee (non-refundable), IEP staff helps you to arrange your housing.
- Arrival day support: With the $100 support fee (non-refundable), you will get picked up from the Hilo airport and have a support for initial shopping. (Available only weekdays. You will need to arrive by 3:00 pm at the Hilo airport to receive this support.)
- Housing & arrival day support: With the $150 support fee (non-refundable), you can receive both support services.
Now, I would like to show how the arrival support service is going to be like.
First of all, at the Hilo airport, our IEP staff comes to pick you up. We will be waiting for you with a name board.
Then, we will go to your apartment and help you check-in. After check-in, we will go to your room and find what items we should get at shopping.
It’s ok that you don’t know what to buy because we give you a list of shopping! Our IEP staff can also give you advice. Please do not hesitate to ask questions.
Once your shopping is done then we will take you home.
I was an IEP student and I had the #3 support (Pre and post arrival support). When I came here, I just graduated from my high school and it was my first time living alone. So, this support was so helpful for me to start my study abroad. I still remember how nice the IEP staff support was and I was able to finish my first day of study abroad comfortably.
I stayed in the one of the apartments that you can choose from the housing page for 2 years. It was close to the school and the manager was so helpful whenever I needed her help. I was able to live so comfortably.
This was a very short summary of the support service. If you are worried about study abroad and not sure what’s like in the beginning, I hope this email is helpful!
Good luck with your 2nd weeks of school!
A hui hou!
